Members of the Save Happy Valley Coalition have made numerous trips to the ridgeline of Mt Augustus, bush-bashing 1000m uphill to the stunning views, snail sightings and kiwi calls.
We’ve researched, written letters, held stalls, and have more plans to stop this extinction from occurring.
You can help:
- Write to Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Parliament Buildings, New Zealand (pm@ministers.govt.nz), and tell her what you think of condemning an absolutely protected species to extinction.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
- Sign the petition at our stalls, download (PDF) or contact us if you’d like a whole page to get your friends to sign too.
- Donate much needed funds to this cause.
Sponsor a Snail
The only home of this ancient carnivorous snail lies on the slopes of Mt Augustus, on the West Coast of the South Island. But government-owned coal company Solid Energy will soon begin digging up this habitat for an open-cast coal mine!
They say they're spending $8000 per snail. We're asking you for a mere $10 to help us save this gorgeous, critically-endangered species from state-sanctioned extinction.
